Fantasy Road Race update after WSB at Donington

Marco Melandri - Race 1 winner Carlos Checa - Race 2 Winner

Elaine Jacobs with Team Alien went to the top of the BikeWise MCN Fantasy Road Race 2011 League , after the second WSB round from Donington Park.

Stephen Pino has dropped from the top spot to second with Jonathan Knowles in third place

Carlos Checa made it three wins in four races with victory in the second race of the European round.

Checa, who also qualified in pole position, finished over three seconds ahead of Marco Melandri, with Leon Camier another two and a half seconds adrift in third.

Melandri had earlier won the opening race, ahead of Jacob Smrz and Checa.

However, it was a disappointing weekend for reigning champion Max Biaggi, who could only finish seventh in the first race and was disqualified for failing to come into the pits following a jump start in the second race.

It’s still OK to enter the league as the season has a long way to go.

The rate for over-600s has gone from £70 to £74. It’s the second rise since March 2010, when the price was £66.

Tax for bikes between 401cc and 600cc has also gone up, from £50 to £53. Bikes from 151cc to 400cc now cost £35 to tax for a year, up from £33, and bikes up to 150cc are up £1 to £16.

Female motorcyclist seriously hurt in crash

sg2 Accident investigators are appealing for witnesses to a collision involving a car and a motorcycle which left a woman with serious injuries.

The incident happened at 1310hrs on Saturday, 19 March on the A688 through the village of Stainton Grove, at the junction with The Green.

It involved a Honda motorbike, travelling eastbound from Barnard Castle towards Staindrop which was in a collision with a Rover 218 coming onto the main road from The Green.

The bike hit the nearside of the car before leaving the road and coming to rest on an adjoining grass verge and footpath.

The rider, a 49-year-old woman from Shotton Colliery was thrown from her vehicle and sustained serious head and back injuries, as well as a punctured right lung.

She was airlifted to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough where this morning her condition was described as 'critical but stable.'

The driver of the car, an 81-year-old woman from Barnard Castle was shocked but unhurt.

The road was closed for around two hours, to allow for the vehicles to be recovered and for police to make an initial examination of the scene.

Anyone who was in the area and saw the incident is asked to contact the force's collision investigation unit on 0191 375 2159.

Report a Road Defect 2

Defect-Logoc2c2c2  Potholes and uneven road surfaces are becoming a constant hazard on the UK’s roads. Due to an increase of traffic on our roads, recent longer, harder winters and the cut backs the local councils have to take on road maintenance all have led to the deterioration of our road systems.

Potholes are caused when water penetrates tiny cracks in the road – cracks that are usually caused by traffic. When this water freezes, it expands, widening the cracks. When it melts, traffic thumps down on the space vacated by the ice and smashes new craters into the road surface.
These holes can cause axel, suspension and tyre damage to cars, but they can be lethal to a motorcyclist and cyclists. If you come across a pothole or road defect please report it to the appropriate authorities. Inform the right people:

BikeWise Fantasy Road Race League update

Casey Stoner - 2011

Casey Stoner won the opening Moto GP of 2011 on his Repsol Honda at last weekends race at Quatar.

World champion Jorge Lorenzo finished second and Danni Pedrosa third.

Stephen Pino continues to lead our BikeWise league in MCN’s Fantasy Road Racing competition and is joint top in the country (with the other 140 !! ). Jonathan Knowles is running Stephen a close second.

This weekend see the World Superbikes return to our own Donington Park for the second round of the championship and with the forecast looking good we should see a big crowd and some close racing.

James Toseland has injured his hand in a crash and is out of action for a few weeks, so let’s hope one of the other British riders can bring home a couple of wins on home ‘soil’.

It’s still OK to enter the league as the season has a long way to go.

There are also seven 'Game Round' prizes to play for during the year, too.

2011 Ducati Roadshow at BikeWise 2011

logo-Ducati The demonstrator fleet showcases the 2011 range including the new and much heralded Diavel. Aswell as the Diavel, the Multistrada 1200 will undoubtedly be a popular choice to test ride as this ‘four-bikes-in-one’ has wowed many with its performance, versatility and technological advancement.

13986Although the Multistrada will be the beacon of attention for many, it will not be overshadowed by a test fleet that includes the iconic Monsters, including the new 1100 Evo, the Hypermotard 796 and 1100 Evo, the muscular Streetfighter and the fleet  would not be complete without its majestic Superbikes including the stunning 1198 range and the cornering gem that is the 848 Evo.

To take a test ride at any of these events, riders must have a valid motorcycle licence (both parts required) and appropriate clothing and safety gear. Local dealership staff will be on hand to give expert technical and service advice and trained riders will be there to guide all test rides.

Donington Park World Superbikes
Sunday 27th March 2011 – Donington Park
British race fans will get two chances to see their WSB heroes in 2011 following the announcement that Donington Park will host the second round of the World Superbike Championship on March 25th to 27th.
Donington Park last hosted a round of the championship in 2009 where American Ben Spies won both races on his way to claiming the title. With at least five British riders confirmed to race in WSB next season securing another round in the UK is a necessary and logical step.
Kevin Wheatcroft, chairman of the re-instated Donington Park Racing Limited, is delighted to re-establish Donington Park as a world motorcycle venue. “It was always my father’s dream and since his death at the end of last year, I always wanted to provide a world class event in his memory.”
Paolo Flammini, CEO of Infront Motor Sports, official promoter of the FIM Superbike World Championship, commented: “We are extremely pleased to bring SBK back to Donington Park for the European Round of the Championship.
"The Leicestershire circuit is where the Championship began its history 23 years ago and has hosted many successful rounds of our series over the years. Thanks to the presence of many competitive British riders both in the Superbike and Supersport classes, we are sure that the 2011 event will attract many fans and will be a huge success”.

Last year, 38yr old Tony Stevens from Hartlepool, who after a ‘gruelling’ season, managing a multi million pound budget and some of the world’s best motorcycle racers Tony not only topped our own BikeWise league – he topped the national league and ‘walked’ away with a brand new Yamaha R6. So let’s hope that we can have a repeat of last season’s success and bring that Yamaha home to the North (again)
